If you are planning on moving into your new home, but you can’t afford to buy new furniture, consider giving your wicker pieces a new lease of life with a fresh coat of paint.
You will need – A vacuum, stiff-bristled brush, a bucket, water, mild detergent, a sponge, bleach and a spray bottle with water, soft cloth, dust mask, spray primer and spray paint.
Step 1 – Set up your workspace, by taking your furniture outdoors and placing it on newspaper to catch any paint spills.
Step 2 – Clean the dust off using you’re the vacuum and then brush off any chipped lose paint with the bristle brush.
Step 3 – With soapy water and a sponge, wash your wicker furniture. If you see any mildew clean it with a mixture of bleach and water. You should then let your wicker air-dry in the sun for a few hours.
Step 4 – You will now need to prime your furniture. It is best to use a few coats of primer before applying your spray paint. Always wear a dust mask when applying primer and hold the spray-can at least a foot away from the material. Once your furniture is dry, apply another coat of primer.
Step 5 – After your second coat of primer is dry, apply a thin layer of paint, following the same technique as above. It is a good idea to start with the underneath of the furniture first and then move to the visible areas second. Let your furniture dry thoroughly before applying the second coat.
